There’s nothing I love more than making an easy, tasty dinner after a 12-hour shift or a full day at uni. A brand that is amazing for its easy recipe mixes, herbs, spices and sauces is Schwartz. I am a huge fan of their seasonings and recipe mixes for an easy meal that tastes just as delicious as if you were cooking it from scratch, they are definitely a brand I trust to provide amazing tastes to my meals.
The great thing about the recipe mixes is that you can switch them up depending on what ingredients you fancy in your meal that evening. The packet suggests that you include bacon in your carbonara, but you could easily make it vegetarian by swapping out the bacon for some vegetarian bacon or possibly even courgette for something even more different. When making my Spaghetti Carbonara, I decided to stick to the delicious suggested recipe on the packet as it sounded incredible – the only thing I did opt to remove were the mushrooms in my portion – they aren’t my favourite!
First I diced 200g bacon and fried it until it was nice and crispy. I then added 175g sliced mushrooms to the pan and fried them for 2 minutes until they started to brown. Next, I mixed the contents of the sachet with 450ml milk and stirred this into the pan, bringing it to the boil, stirring until the mixture was smooth and thickened. Finally, I stirred in the cooked spaghetti and heated it through. The packet suggests 275g spaghetti, but all us pasta lovers know that no one measures their spaghetti…and you always end up with enough to feed a family of 10!
We served our Spaghetti Carbonara with garlic bread and mixed leaf salad. I don’t know about everyone else but there’s no way I can eat pizza or pasta without a side of garlic bread, it just feels so wrong!
These easy recipe mixes are 85p each or 4 for £2 from Tesco, which I think is such an incredible deal, especially as there are so many to choose from. Next time I pick the Spaghetti Carbonara mix up from the supermarket I’ll definitely be trying it with some seasoned chicken breast, bacon and some extra garlic for a bit of a switch up!
The portion sizes are huge and you can definitely feed a family with this meal or if you’re a student, cook the meal and save portions aside for later in the week. It’s even better that all of the ingredients came to under £5!
