I’m so excited to be writing this post as it means I’m off on another getaway, this time to Mexico, and by the time this post goes up I will be settled right into our home for the next week and a bit. Last year when I went to Cape Verde I didn’t write one of these ‘what’s in my carry-on’ posts – honestly I wasn’t sure what I’d find useful for a flight – but now I’m pretty sure I’ve got some sort of idea. This time it’s a long haul flight I’m going on, so I’ll be taking a cabin case to fit everything in that I think I’ll need for the 10 hours we’ll be in the air. The cabin case I’m taking is the Revelation! Weightless 4 Wheel Soft case, which will be great as it won’t take up half of my cabin luggage weight.
The usual essentials that you need for travel are in my hand luggage, such as my passport, travel documents and insurance documents. I’ll be taking a travel pillow – I’ve heard these are great for a long haul flight, and my sunglasses for when we land the other side. I also class boiled sweets to suck on during take off and landing as essentials due to having really temperamental ears, which like to block and cause me pain!
For a 10 hour flight, I’m going to need a lot of entertainment. These are also things that keep me distracted from the fact that I am an anxious flyer and stop me from panicking. My main go-to for entertainment is my iPad. I’ve heard that you can plug your own tablet into the screen on the Dreamliner, so that’ll be even better than watching off my iPad screen itself. I’ll be loading it with films and TV shows from Netflix to binge on my flights to and from Mexico. I’ll be taking my Urban Ears headphones to listen to films and music too, they’re so comfy and perfect for wearing for a long time. I also like to take a book and a magazine to read, I find reading keeps me the most distracted, especially if I’m concentrating on a good book. For my flight there, I’ll be taking All The Bright Places and Elle, and for my flight back home I’ll be taking Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham and Cosmopolitan.
In the way of electricals, I will be taking my phone charger, to plug my iPad into the screen, along with my portable charger in case either my phone or iPad start to run out of battery. I’ll also be taking my cameras, including my GoPro, which I’m hoping to record a lot of my trip on and my Instax Mini to get a few polaroids of my holiday.
I don’t take too many ‘toiletries’ in my carry-on, mainly due to the liquid restrictions on flights. I do however take a lip balm with me, and I’ll be taking my moisturiser this time too to refresh me on the long flight. I also like to put my powder make up in my carry-on luggage, so it has less chance of getting smashed if I’m in control of the bag it’s in. I couldn’t let my Becca highlighter break, could I?!
What would be in your carry-on for a long haul flight?
