W7 Full Time Lip Colour

Full Time Lip Colour in Soft Touch* - £3.95

Putting the longevity of a make up product to the test. There is nothing that pleases me more, especially when the claims on the packet actually work. The W7 Full Time Lip Colour claims to wear 24 hours, even though I'd never wear it that long on my lips to test that claim. I applied it at 6pm to my lips and swatched it on my hand, doing the layer of colour as it says to, then adding the lip gloss on top once dry. Both felt rather sticky I thought, however once dry the colour did not feel sticky, just the clear lip gloss. As you can see in the photo above, I swatched the colour then half overlapped the clear lip gloss on top. Where I put the clear gloss on top of the colour, the colour and lip gloss had disappeared by 9pm, leaving the side with just the colour on standing. This was still there after 24 hours, and I am an excessive hand washer. However, on my lips it stayed until about 11pm, but this was only round the edges, as I had eaten and drank between 6pm and 11pm. The stickiness of the gloss may have pulled the colour off. The idea and the formula works well to achieve a long lasting colour on the lips - I think 5 hours of wear is pretty good as it would certainly last you an evening! The colour 'Soft Touch' didn't suit my skin tone but there are a range of colours available so I'm sure there are enough to suit everyone. Overall, I'm rather impressed with this product, the only downside is the sticky clear gloss.

The Secret Garden

Denim Jacket - Topshop
Dress - Primark (2013)
Skate Shoes - Topshop
Bag - Primark

A few weeks ago, me and my Mom headed to the Botanical Gardens as it was a lovely sunny day. We walked into the Bonsai part of the gardens and I thought it was the perfect location for some outfit photos! I bought this dress from Primark last year in the sale and fell in love with was too big for me so my Mom kindly altered it, as there was not one in my size whatsoever! The detailing of the dress is beautiful, I love the cut out at the front. Also, after watching Victoria's video I headed out to Primark with Jess and bought the black and white version of the bag she'd bought for her camera, it really is the perfect size for a Canon 600D! Now I don't have to take my massive camera backpack everywhere. I've also been loving pairing my denim jacket with most of my outfits, as it adds that bit extra. I am so glad the weather is improving as it means more outfit posts!

Mini NYX Haul

Recently, I went to the Beauty UK Show at the NEC, and I picked up a few little bits from NYX. I hadn't owned anything by NYX before, so I was excited to try their products out. I knew I wanted one of their powder blushes, so I bought the shade Pinched, which was only £4.50! I also wanted to try one of their Butter Glosses, I bought the shade Merengue, which cost me £4. I didn't swatch this until I got home, I then found out it is a very light, bright pink. I'll have to see if this works with a tan! I also noticed the gorgeous Glitter Cream Palettes were only £2 so I got one as I thought it would be nice to create certain looks or for nights out. I had wanted a red lip liner for ages so I decided it was the perfect time to pick one up, this one is in the shade Hot Red, and it cost £3. The last thing I bought was a Jumbo Eye Pencil in Yogurt as it looked like the perfect base colour. This cost me £4, and it is so pigmented, I can't wait to use it for a look.

Father's Day - Prostate Cancer UK

I know today will probably be full of happy, positive posts about people spending the day with their Dad's, and I'm going to try and make this as positive as possible. 11 years ago in February 2004, my Dad died of Prostate Cancer. I thought instead of keeping quiet on social media today, I would write a blog post on how important it is to tell your Dad's and men in your life to get checked for Prostate Cancer. Most men will probably think because they are not at high risk (the high risk factors are men over 55, black men and men with family history of the disease) they will not get checked out. My Dad was 48 when he died of Prostate Cancer, and he was in none of the high risk categories specified above. Prostate Cancer UK made a short film for 'Father's Day' that you can watch here. Today I am donating to Prostate Cancer UK, in memory of my Dad.

Here are a few facts and figures about Prostate Cancer, found on their website:
  • Every hour, one man dies of Prostate Cancer
  • One in eight men will get Prostate Cancer
  • In England, 34,000 men are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer every year
  • In England, 9,000 men die of Prostate Cancer every year
Prostate Cancer UK fights to help more men to survive prostate cancer. They are an amazing charity, so please do have a look on their website here. This is a really horrible and serious disease, which affects the lives of many. I am trying to raise awareness so that less and less people are killed by this awful disease.

Prostate Cancer UK did not ask me to write this post, it is just a charity close to my heart.

Handmade Burger Co

A while ago now, me and Jess went to the Handmade Burger Co in the Bullring, I hadn't been there since it had opened a few years ago, so I was excited to see if anything had changed. There were over 40 burgers to choose from, and I chose Chicken Skewers with a side of chips and corn on the cob. All of it was lovely, I just wished the BBQ dip would have been slightly better (personal taste!). Jess chose a Cajun Vegetable and Bean Burger and a side of Cajun Chips. We also chose Brownie and Waffle Sundaes, which were so yummy but I couldn't eat much of mine because I was so full from the meal! The staff were so lovely and smiley and we had the most amazing service before, during and after our meal. Overall I really enjoyed the Handmade Burger Co experience, and sorry I don't have much to say except it was delicious!

If you don't like burgers, the Handmade Burger Co should still have something that catches your eye, as in the way meat goes I only eat chicken and bacon, and I still found something to eat off the menu! I could easily eat there again!

My Pick of Beauty Books

I have a new found love for beauty books. I received these over Christmas and my birthday, and they are ever so useful. So updated from the Vogue books of my Mom's (from the 80's!) that I used to read - these have up to date beauty tips in. I love looking through all three if I can't decide on a look before going somewhere and want to spiral away from my usual every day make up routine. The Wah Nails Book of Nail Art is the most amazing nail book I have read, it tells you how to do so many different nail looks that are up to date, one of my personal favourites are the 'Pow!' nails, they look old superhero-cartoon like. It also tells you at the beginning a general idea of what you will need to recreate the nail art looks. The Lauren Conrad Beauty book is so helpful with day to day beauty tips, and also includes hairstyles and make up looks you can easily recreate. This is an amazing book for beginners, as it gives step-by-step instructions on each aspect of make up. The Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual I would say is for makeup addicts (like myself) as it tells you what is useful to carry around with you, have in your makeup drawers at home, and what to have in your kit. I have definitely taken all the things in these books into account and they are amazing reference books to pop on your beside or dressing table.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+ - £13.55

I know I'm a bit late to the party in reviewing this, but I bought La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+ when it was first released, shortly after finishing up a sample size of the original Effaclar Duo, which I had loved. This instantly made my skin look so much better, and this combined with Liz Earle's Hot Cloth Cleanser made sure I only had ONE spot in a month! That had never happened before! The marks left on my face from spots also went down rapidly, and I was surprised I was able to shift blemishes that had been on face for as long as I could remember. This also seemed to me like it was slowly but surely getting rid of my blackheads, which I absolutely hate and nothing else had ever seemed to shift them. It certainly does what it says on the tube, and it didn't break me out once. However, I think it did make my skin drier in parts, so I did stop using it for a while just in case it was down to this. Overall I think this is a great skincare staple to have if you're prone to spots and blemishes, as it really can help!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer

I bought this concealer alongside the matching foundation, and I'm so glad I did. This is the first liquid concealer I've owned that actually covers up my blemishes and redness rather than highlighting them more. This as an under-eye concealer is perfect as it does brighten up the under-eye area, therefore giving you the 'Anti Fatigue Effect'. Even if it does advertise a radiant glow, your blemishes aren't highlighted. It has a handy doe foot applicator so you can get right under your eyes and dot it on to any blemishes and redness, rather than using a brush. It is creamy and so easy to blend in, it doesn't take longer than half a minute to blend in fully around the eyes and the rest of my face. It stays all day with a concealer primer, so those dark circles won't come creeping through.
It does well to conceal everything you want to be hidden on your face and therefore is the perfect addition to your make up bag.

Healthy Snacks

I have recently started to ditch the foods that I've never really been that keen on anyway, . However, I've found substitutes for those foods, in the form of Boots Shapers range, Propercorn and Metcalfe's Skinny Topcorn! I've always been a fan of Boots Shapers Prawn Cocktail spirals, they are hands down the best snack to eat. The Chocolate and Toffee Popcorn was also absolutely delicious, how can something so tasty be so healthy to eat?! I must admit I didn't get much of a look in at this one...but what I did have was yummy! Me and Ryan also tried Propercorn in the Sweet and Salty flavour and absolutely love it, we turned our noses up at it at first, but it's just so delicious! I also picked up the Metcalfe's Skinny Topcorn to try...and I must say I am impressed! The best thing about these healthy snacks is the fact they all cost £1 or under...finally healthy snacks are cheaper than junk. You can pick Metcalfe's Skinny Topcorn up on their website or in Sainsbury's, and the rest of the snacks are available in Boots.

I don't calorie count myself, but for anyone who's interested (per bag):
Boots Shapers Chocolate & Toffee Popcorn 20g, 87 Cal, Approx 4.5 syns
Boots Shapers Prawn Cocktail Spirals 15g, 73 Cal, Approx 3.5 syns
Propercorn Sweet & Salty 30g, 129 Cal, Approx 6.5 syns
Metcalfe's Skinny Topcorn Sweet 'n Salt 80g (3 Servings), 345 Cal, Approx 17 syns (So if you are on Slimming World, this bag needs splitting up over a few days!)
